And here we go with some tips for creative tag lines

  • Use your favorite quote from your favorite writer, humorist, or comedian. This belongs to the borrowing of lines that I was talking about in the previous articles. Go to any search engine and just type in the name of your favorite writers. Just choose something that you think will be interesting, but also describes a little about yourself. The line or quote may not be funny, but it needs to be appealing.

Example: “Way down deep, I’m very shallow,” by Dorothy Parker. It’s a bit funny, but a lot intriguing.

  • Twist one of the lines of your favorite poem or literary piece by giving it a funny tweak. If the reader is familiar with that certain quote and saw that you changed it, and then they might just contact you to start a conversation about the tagline that you posted up.

Example: “To be or not to be… that’s NOT a question!” and just send your apologies to the great William Shakespeare for parodying his lines to your advantage.

  • Use a funny line from a commercial. People will remember that commercial and start laughing, assuming that they saw it, that is. And besides, most people enjoy references to pop culture.

Example: “Where’s the Beef?” from the Wendy’s commercial. When it started getting popularity, that line got a life of its own. It is now an all-purpose phrase questioning the substance of an idea or product. You may add, “Oh! Here it is!” which may refer to yourself. Corny, I know, but hey, it works!

I’ve fallen and I can’t get up!” from LifeCall commercial. This line was for a serious commercial in the 80’s and 90’s, but was seen as a comedy due to the dramatization of the line and is now used for several comedic situations. It can work for you because you may refer to fallen as in “fallen in love” and “can’t get up” unless the person you seek helps you. See?

  • Go funny! Again, humor never failed anyone, just avoid the over-rated and overly-used ones. Here are some of the examples that are quite common, yet still very effective:

“I used to think I was indecisive, but now I’m not too sure.”

“A song from your lips is like an aria from heaven.”

“Do you have room in your life for another friend?”

“Can I have directions to your heart?”

“I don’t know you, but I love you already.”

Yeah, corny, I know. But you they seem to never fail and you’d be surprised at how often they work out for people.

Alright, some of you must be asking, “Are you serious?!” well, yes, I am. Very much so. Because taglines mean serious business, yet the most funny ones work out the best, that is, if they match your personality too.
