I don’t know that I have advice about how to be forward. I was saying that just as people should not feel that society requires them to be passive, they should not feel pressured to be forward. Everyone should do what works for them in terms of making them happy and comfortable,

I don’t think this is very good advice. It seems to be basically telling people they should be less passive, not how to change if they want to. Furthermore, being passive is not necessarily a bad thing, although I recognize the letter’s writer wanted to change.
